Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has announced a 12-step action plan to boost India-Pacific Island nation’s ties

On May 22, 2023, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and his Papua New Guinea counterpart held a bilateral meeting in Port Moresby. The two leaders discussed cooperation in commerce, technology, and healthcare, as well as in addressing climate change. A 12-step action plan to improve India's partnership with Pacific Island Countries was also unveiled by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.

Mr. Narendra Modi appreciated Prime Minister Mr. James Marape to co-host the FIPIC-III Summit in Port Moresby.

A 100-bed regional super speciality hospital in Fiji, the establishment of a regional IT and cyber security training hub in Papua New Guinea, Sagar Amrut Scholarships (100 scholarships in the next five years), Jaipur foot camp in Papua Guinea in 2023, are among Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's 12-step action plan. Other projects include, the FIPIC SME development project, a solar project for government buildings, water desalination units for drinking water, supply of sea ambulances, setting up of a dialysis unit, emergency helpline number, setting up of Jan Aushadi Kendras, and Yoga Centres are the initiatives that are being undertaken.

The two leaders additionally launched a translation in the Papua New Guinean language Tok Pisin of the Tamil classic "Thirukkural."

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi is the first Indian PM to visit the island nation.
