Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi highlighted that India’s rapidly evolving energy sector is central to achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’. Sharing an article by Union Power Minister Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi emphasised how the country has transitioned from energy shortages to becoming one of the world’s fastest-growing electricity markets. Over the past decade, energy shortages have declined sharply from 4.2% in 2013-14 to just 0.03% in 2025-26, while total electricity generation has nearly doubled from 1,020 billion units in 2014 to 1,830 billion units in 2025. India is now the third-largest producer and consumer of electricity globally, reflecting significant improvements in access, reliability, and economic growth.
The transformation has been driven by sustained policy focus on expanding capacity, strengthening grid resilience, and ensuring affordable energy for all. The government’s efforts have enabled a robust and sustainable energy ecosystem capable of meeting future demand. Rising per capita electricity consumption further underscores improved living standards and industrial expansion. With continued investments in infrastructure and clean energy, India is positioning itself as a future-ready economy that balances growth with sustainability. The sector’s progress highlights its pivotal role in ensuring energy security, supporting economic development, and advancing the broader goal of a developed and self-reliant India.
