Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi held talks with Russian President Mr. Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the 26th annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, with discussions focusing on key areas of India-Russia bilateral cooperation, including trade and investment, energy and defence. Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi said it was a matter of deep satisfaction that cooperation between India and Russia continued to scale new heights. On the Ukraine conflict, he stressed the need for a peaceful resolution, saying every day of war sets humanity back, and told President Mr. Vladimir Putin that resolving all issues through peaceful means is a call of humanity. Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi said the world must move from endless wars to ending wars, adding that India supports all efforts towards peace.
The meeting took place more than a week before President Mr. Vladimir Putin is scheduled to travel to India for the annual BRICS Summit. Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi said India is hosting the BRICS Summit in a few days and that all Indians are eager to welcome President Mr. Vladimir Putin and his delegation, adding that the visit would strengthen bilateral relations and reinforce dialogue and cooperation within the BRICS framework. President Mr. Vladimir Putin, in turn, expressed satisfaction that Indian-Russian relations continue to strengthen based on a special and privileged partnership.
