In Khunti, Jharkhand, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi released the 15th instalment of more than Rs. 18,000 crore (US$ 2.16 billion) under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. This significant release is aimed at providing financial support to farmers across the country. The instalment was released on the annual JanJaatiya Gaurav Divas, which is observed on the birthday of Mr. Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the "father of the land."
In order to ensure the comprehensive development of tribal groups, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi launched the Rs. 24,000 crore (US$ 2.88 billion) PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan on this occasion. He also laid the foundation stone and dedicated several development projects in Jharkhand worth Rs. 7,200 crore (US$ 864.5 million) to the country on the state's foundation day in multiple sectors like rail, road, education, coal, petroleum, and natural gas.
The tribal artists welcomed him with open arms when he arrived at the location. Numerous enthusiastic farmers engaged virtually, in addition to the thousands who came to the event. Along with other guests, the event was attended by Jharkhand's Chief Minister, Mr. Hemant Soren, Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Mr. Arjun Munda, and Governor of Jharkhand, Mr. C. P. Radhakrishnan.
While addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister discussed his visit to Ranchi's Freedom Fighter Museum and Ulihatu Village. Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas was celebrated by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, who also paid tribute to the esteemed revolutionary Mr. Bhagwan Birsa Munda. In addition, Mr. Narendra Modi wished Jharkhand a happy foundation day and emphasised the Former Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee's role in the state's formation.
He emphasised that all of Jharkhand's rail routes are currently 100% electrified.
Reaching out to primitive tribes, many of whom still live in forests, is the government's goal under PM JANMAN. The Prime Minister stated that 75 of these primitive tribes and tribal communities, totalling lakhs of people and spread over more than 22,000 villages, have been identified. He stressed the importance of connecting lives rather than just numbers. This massive campaign is costing the national government Rs. 24,000 crore (US$ 2.88 billion).
The Prime Minister stated that more than Rs. 2,75,000 crore (US$ 33.01 billion) had already been deposited into farmers' accounts in reference to the 15th instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, which was released on November 15, 2023.
Initiatives like the Kisan Credit Card for fishermen and cattle farmers, the government's Rs. 15,000 crore (US$ 1.80 billion) vaccination programme for animals, funding for fish farming under the Matsya Sampada Yojana, and the establishment of 10,000 new Farmer Produce Unions were also noted. Through increased accessibility to markets, these initiatives seek to lower prices for farmers.
All things considered, the occasion represented a significant turning point in the government's dedication to helping farmers and guaranteeing the comprehensive development of indigenous communities. The launch of the PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan and the release of the 15th PM-KISAN instalment show the government's ongoing efforts to empower and improve marginalised communities.
