Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated WAVES 2025, India’s first World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit, at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted that over 100 countries’ artists, innovators, investors, and policymakers had come together to lay the foundation for a global ecosystem of talent and creativity. He underscored India’s rich cinematic history, mentioning the release of India’s first feature film, Raja Harishchandra, in 1913. He highlighted the global recognition of Indian cinema, from Raj Kapoor’s popularity in Russia to the Oscar-winning success of RRR. He also praised the success of the first WAVES Summit, noting the participation of approximately 100,000 creative professionals across 60 countries in the Creators Challenge and Creatosphere initiative. He encouraged the finalists to make their mark on the global creative stage. He expressed enthusiasm for the innovations showcased at the Bharat Pavilion. He announced the launch of WAVES Awards in the future, establishing them as prestigious honours in art and creativity. He emphasised the need for sustained commitment to winning the hearts of people across the world through creativity.

Reflecting on India’s rapid economic progress, he stated that the nation is on its way to becoming the world’s third-largest economy. He highlighted India’s position in global fintech adoption, mobile manufacturing, and startup ecosystem. He underscored India’s deep cultural roots, mentioning Bharata Muni’s Natya Shastra and Kalidasa’s contributions to classical drama. He remarked that India’s stories are timeless, thought-provoking, and global, encompassing diverse themes. He called upon the WAVES platform to share India’s extraordinary stories with the world through new and engaging formats. He emphasised the importance of creative responsibility in a technology-driven 21st century, urging creators to preserve emotional sensitivity and cultural richness. He invited international investors and creators to embrace India as their content playground and explore the country’s vast creative ecosystem. He concluded by extending his best wishes to all participants of the inaugural WAVES Summit.
