Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Ms. Giorgia Meloni have outlined a shared vision for strengthening the India-Italy strategic partnership through deeper cooperation in trade, technology, defence, clean energy and connectivity. In a joint Op-Ed, the two leaders highlighted the growing convergence between India and Italy on key global and economic issues, reaffirming their commitment to advancing the Joint Strategic Action Plan announced in 2024. They noted that bilateral ties have expanded significantly in recent years, supported by stronger political engagement, rising business collaboration and growing people-to-people exchanges. The leaders also emphasised the importance of innovation, research partnerships and industrial cooperation in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, clean technologies and advanced manufacturing. The expanded partnership is expected to strengthen industrial cooperation, investment flows and resilient supply chains across strategic sectors.
The two leaders further underscored the strategic importance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) in enhancing connectivity, trade integration and economic cooperation across regions. They highlighted opportunities for collaboration in renewable energy, green hydrogen, critical minerals, defence manufacturing, space technology and digital transformation. The joint Op-Ed also reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to a free, open and rules-based international order, while supporting efforts to address global challenges such as climate change, energy security and sustainable development. Growing cooperation between India and Italy is expected to boost investment flows, strengthen industrial partnerships and support innovation-led growth across sectors. The leaders expressed confidence that the strategic partnership will continue to deepen and contribute to economic prosperity, technological advancement and long-term stability in the Indo-Pacific and European regions.
