Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, rides the underwater metro and launches US$ 1.8 billion (Rs. 15,400 crore) projects in Kolkata.

Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated multiple connectivity projects in Kolkata, totalling US$ 1.8 billion (Rs. 15,400 crore). Among the highlights was the launch of India's first underwater metro service, connecting Howrah Maidan to Esplanade as part of the Kolkata Metro's East-West Corridor. The underwater tunnel, spanning 520 meters under the Hooghly River, was completed for US$ 599.8 billion (Rs. 4,965 crore). He shared the memorable metro ride with school children and expressed pride in enhancing Kolkata's metro network, anticipating improved connectivity and decongested traffic. The inauguration also extended to Pune, Agra, and the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor metro projects.

In addition to the underwater metro service, Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated several key metro sections in Kolkata, including Kavi Subhash - Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Taratala - Majerhat. The ceremony also marked the commencement of metro projects in Pune and Agra, along with the launch of train services on various sections and the foundation stone laying for the Pune Metro Rail project's Phase 1 extension. These initiatives aim to bolster urban transportation infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and efficiency in multiple cities nationwide.
