Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's State Visit to Seychelles has strengthened the strategic partnership between the two countries through a series of agreements spanning digital payments, healthcare, space, maritime cooperation, agriculture and infrastructure development. During the visit, India and Seychelles signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NPCI International Payments Ltd. and the Central Bank of Seychelles to facilitate the implementation of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Seychelles, expanding India's digital payments ecosystem globally. The two countries also signed agreements under the Jan Aushadhi Scheme to supply affordable generic medicines, an Extradition Treaty to strengthen cooperation against transnational crime, and an MoU on the peaceful exploration and use of outer space covering satellite applications, space technology and capacity building. Additional agreements were concluded to support the construction of a new National Hospital, recognise Indian seafarers' training and certification, strengthen agricultural cooperation through the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and enhance diplomatic training and institutional capacity building.
India also announced a series of development assistance initiatives aimed at supporting Seychelles' long-term economic and social development. These include the gifting of a Fast Patrol Vessel, 10 utility vehicles, five Laser Radial class boats, six ambulances, 500 metric tonnes of rice and 8,500 metric tonnes of cement, along with an Umbrella Line of Credit Agreement through the Export-Import Bank of India to finance infrastructure and development projects. Both countries also launched initiatives such as a commemorative logo marking 50 years of diplomatic relations, the virtual ground-breaking of a Professional and Technical Education Centre, the completion of the refit of the Seychelles Coast Guard vessel PS Zoroaster and the modernisation of a Dornier aircraft. Seychelles also joined the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), further strengthening cooperation in disaster resilience and sustainable infrastructure.
