Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi launched India's major defence show, DefExpo 2022, in Gandhinagar. He said that this is the first defence show to highlight just Indian firms and Made-in-India equipment. From the country of Iron Man, Mr. Sardar Patel, we are setting an example of India's potential before the world, remarked the Prime Minister.
More than 1,300 exhibitors from the Indian defence sector, some joint ventures (JVs) with foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), medium, small, and micro businesses (MSMEs), and more than 100 start-ups are participating in the Expo. Prime Minister stated that this demonstrated India's competence and potential. For the first time, he added, more than 400 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were being signed.
The Prime Minister launched the HTT-40, an indigenous basic trainer aircraft designed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, at the India Pavilion, which exhibited "Make in India" success stories. According to the MoD, the HTT-40 includes cutting-edge modern technology and was created with pilots in mind. The HTT-40 is an indigenous accomplishment, with all systems and flying tests accomplished. With over 60% in-house parts and participation from private sector, the MoD sees the HTT-40 as a shining illustration of Aatmanirbhar Bharat's goal.
In 2021-22, India's defence exports will total Rs. 13,000 crore (US$ 1.59 billion), and the goal is to raise Rs. 40,000 crore (US$ 5 billion).
