In preparation for the upcoming general elections, the government is set to inaugurate 15 airport projects, with Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi scheduled to lead the unveiling on Sunday. Among the significant projects are new terminals at Delhi, Lucknow, and Pune airports, along with new airports in Uttar Pradesh at Chitrakoot, Shavasti, and Azamgarh, and terminals at Belgaum, Hubli in Karnataka, Jabalpur, and Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. This infrastructure push aligns with the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) strategy to showcase developmental initiatives before the elections. Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, Mr. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, highlighted a planned investment of US$12.1 billion (Rs. 1 lakh crore) over the next four years to expand the number of airports from 148 to 200, covering new constructions, existing expansions, and improvements in allied infrastructure such as Air Traffic Control.

Notable ongoing projects include expanding the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, managed by GMR, aiming to double its annual passenger handling capacity from 20 million to 40 million. Additionally, the Adani group is undertaking a US$ 435.4 million (Rs. 3,600 crore) project to construct a new terminal at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow, contributing to the overall augmentation of India's aviation infrastructure.
