Quick commerce is rapidly emerging as a key driver of blue-collar job creation, with the sector set to generate 500,000 new jobs by 2025, according to a survey by Indeed, a global job matching and hiring platform. The industry hired 40,000 workers last quarter (October 2024 - December 2024) to meet increased demand during the festive season. Key roles such as delivery drivers, retail staff, warehouse associates, and logistics coordinators are critical to supporting quick commerce's fast-paced operations. The survey also highlights that India will require 2.43 million blue-collar workers across various sectors. Tier-I cities like Chennai, Pune, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi are witnessing strong hiring activity. Tier-II cities such as Chandigarh and Ahmedabad also see significant job creation.

Beyond quick commerce, other industries like logistics, manufacturing, and traditional e-commerce are experiencing increased demand for blue-collar workers. The survey stresses the importance of skill development in meeting future needs in quick commerce. Employers are prioritising skills in navigation and driving, digital literacy, data analysis, management, and tech support. Automation and digital tools are reshaping skill requirements, prompting quick commerce companies to invest in training programmes to upskill workers in technology adoption, customer service, and operations management. These efforts are designed to create long-term career opportunities. The sector also offers competitive salaries and incentives, with retail roles earning an average base salary of Rs. 22,600 (US$ 263.23) per month, with additional bonuses during peak seasons. Workers also receive non-monetary benefits, including smartphones and referral rewards.
