The Qatar-India remittance service based on PosTransfer powered by Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is now available through Qatar Post outlets, enabling customers in Qatar to send funds directly to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India. The service was made available on 15 August 2026, coinciding with India's Independence Day, and has been developed through collaboration between Qatar Post, India Post, the Universal Postal Union's Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP) and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). The initiative combines the reach of postal networks with India's digital public infrastructure to provide an accessible channel for cross-border remittances. Under the service, customers can initiate transactions at Qatar Post outlets by providing the recipient's UPI ID and required identification details. The recipient must activate the facility for receiving foreign inward remittances through the UPI app, after which the remitted amount is credited instantly to the beneficiary's UPI-enabled bank account.
Transactions can be initiated for amounts ranging from Rs. 261.92 (US$ 2.75) up to a maximum equivalent of Rs. 1 lakh (US$ 1,048.04) per transaction, with a flat service charge of Rs. 392.89 (US$ 4.12) per transaction. The service is particularly relevant for the large Indian community in Qatar, providing a trusted and accessible channel for sending money to families in India. The integration of UPU-IP with UPI demonstrates the potential of postal networks and digital public infrastructure to support inclusive, interoperable and efficient cross-border financial services. The Qatar-India corridor also represents a step towards modernising international postal financial services and strengthening digital financial cooperation between the two countries. India Post is working with postal operators in other countries to operationalise additional PosTransfer powered by UPI corridors, which could further strengthen international financial connectivity for the Indian diaspora.
