The Union Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics and Information Technology, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that Qualcomm, the largest smartphone processor producer, has joined hands with the Indian government to outline a roadmap for advancing industrial, automotive, and telecom electronics. This collaboration also encompasses establishing 6G labs and the 100 5G labs already operational across India in partnership with central and state governments. Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated Qualcomm Inc.'s Chennai Design Centre, representing an investment of US$ 21.1 million (Rs. 177.27 crore), focusing on wireless connectivity solutions and Wi-Fi technology innovations.

The Chennai Design Centre is poised to accommodate approximately 1,600 highly skilled semiconductor design teams, primarily focusing on end-to-end semiconductor design. He highlighted the importance of this initiative, aligning with Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi's vision to establish a complete semiconductor value chain in India, from design to fabrication and packaging. This investment aligns with the 'Make in India' campaign, which fosters growth opportunities for a robust indigenous design ecosystem. Qualcomm has also pledged support for 6G University Research in India, echoing the government's Bharat 6G Vision, which promotes academic research and leadership in emerging 6G technologies.
