Railways earned US$ 23.5 billion (Rs. 191,162 crores) of revenue in FY23, which is US$ 5 billion (Rs. 41,000 crores) more than the last year

According to the official data by Indian Railways, it has been reported that US$ 23.5 billion (Rs. 191,162 crores) of revenue has been earned so far in the current fiscal year (FY23) which is about US$ 5 billion (Rs. 41,000 crores) more than that of the year-ago period. The railways expect to end this fiscal with a total revenue of US$ 29 billion (Rs 235,000 crores), the officials said.

As per the data, the railways had loaded 1,185 million tonnes (MT) of goods so far this year. The sleeper versions of the Vande Bharat Express are planned to be introduced by 2025 and the Indian Railways are preparing to award contracts for additional 200 current versions of the train this month. It is expected that the manufacturing of around 478 Vande Bharat trains as well as trains driven by hydrogen will be concentrated upon.

In 2022-23, the Railways has saved extensively, after the majority of concessions offered to passengers were stopped, including a hefty subsidy to the elderly. It has also saved on account of the electrification of its routes.
