Mr. Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister of India, hosted the Defence & Deputy Defence Ministers of 27 countries at the Defence Ministers’ Conclave held on the sidelines of Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru on February 14, 2023. The broad theme of the conclave was ‘Shared Prosperity through Enhanced Engagements in Defence’ (SPEED). It aimed to address issues pertaining to expanding cooperation for capacity building (via investments, R&D, joint ventures, co-development, co-production, and provision of defence equipment), training, space, artificial intelligence, and maritime security.
He emphasised the necessity for stronger cooperation in his inauguration speech as the world security situation become more complicated. According to him, the event's title, "SPEED," captures the current moment in which geopolitical and security realities are changing at a rate that has never before been seen. To address such rapid change, he urged real-time collaboration.
Mr. Rajnath Singh restated India's support for a rules-based international system in which "the civilisational concept of justice, cooperation, respect and equality amongst all sovereign nations is substituted by the basic instinct of the might being right." He asserted that India has continuously worked for the upliftment of all nations, especially developing ones, without being bound by any party or coalition of one group of nations against another.
