Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has examined the state of human resources in all departments and ministries, and has directed that 1 million individuals be recruited in "mission mode" during the next 1.5 years.
According to the National Statistical Office's Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), the unemployment rate in urban India for people aged 15 and above fell to 8.7% in October-December 2021, from 10.3% in the previous quarter.
BJP MP Mr. Varun Gandhi, in a tweet thanking Mr. Modi, stated that in addition to creating new employment, the government will have to make significant efforts to fill more than 10 million 'sanctioned but vacant' positions.
To increase employment, the ambitious Tour of Duty scheme is expected to be approved by the Ministry of Defence this week. The strategy was proposed in order to increase job opportunities, with the eventual goal of guaranteeing that 40% of workers be recruited through this method.
