Registered Manufacturing Sector Grows 7.81% in FY25: ASI

India’s registered manufacturing sector recorded broad-based growth in FY25, with industrial output, employment, wages, capital investment and Gross Value Added (GVA) increasing over the previous year, according to the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2024-25 released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). The number of registered manufacturing establishments increased by 2.64%, from 2.60 lakh in FY24 to 2.67 lakh in FY25. Tamil Nadu recorded the highest number of establishments at 41,221, followed by Gujarat with 33,084 and Maharashtra with 27,379. Manufacturing GVA rose by 9.59% to Rs. 26.94 lakh crore (US$ 311.66 billion) from Rs. 24.58 lakh crore (US$ 296.86 billion) in the previous year. Maharashtra accounted for the largest share of manufacturing GVA, followed by Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, with the five states together contributing more than 54% of the national total.

Employment in the registered manufacturing sector increased by 7.19% to 2.10 crore persons in FY25 from 1.96 crore in FY24, while total emoluments rose by 12.08%. Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana together accounted for around 56% of manufacturing employment. Fixed capital increased by 10.54%, while invested capital expanded by 11.10%. Net income and net profit grew by 9.68% and 7.73%, respectively, with net profit reaching Rs. 11.56 lakh crore (US$ 133.68 billion). Basic metals, motor vehicles, chemicals and chemical products, pharmaceuticals and food products were the five leading industries, together contributing more than 45% of manufacturing GVA. The survey recorded a steady increase in factories and employment between FY21 and FY25, highlighting the sector’s expanding production base.
