The environment ministry's expert panel has approved the ambitious underwater cable system for high-capacity and high-speed internet connectivity from India (Mumbai) to Europe and Asia proposed by Reliance.

The largest submarine cable system in the world, India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) and India-Asia-Xpress (IAX), is anticipated to be operational between 2023 and 2024.

IAX has 12 cable landings across five nations, with branches in Matara (Sri Lanka), Satun (Thailand), and Morib (Malaysia), in addition to the main trunk from Tuas (Singapore) to Mumbai. The two cable systems will launch from Versova beach and Silver beach in Mumbai, respectively.

The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC), which oversees projects requiring coastal zone rules for the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, recommended the project for approval in a meeting on November 2 in light of its significance for network connection.
