The Government of India has announced plans to install rooftop solar plants in one crore (10 million) households by 2026-27 under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PM-SGMBY), Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Mr. Pralhad Joshi, informed the Lok Sabha. The scheme, launched in February 2024, is being implemented across all states and Union Territories, with capacities allocated based on state-level demand and progress. In parallel, the Government is executing the Pradhan Mantri-Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) to promote decentralised renewable energy adoption. As of June 30, 2025, Madhya Pradesh alone had installed 11,279.39 Megawatt (MW) of renewable energy capacity, comprising 5,570 MW of solar, 3,195.15 MW of wind, 155.46 MW of bioenergy, and 2,358.71 MW of hydro power.

According to studies by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), nearly 13 lakh employment opportunities are expected to be generated in the renewable energy sector by June 2025. Under the Ministry’s skill development programmes, Suryamitra, Vayumitra, and Jal-urja Mitra, over 31,829 local youth and technical workers have already been trained and placed. Additionally, under the scheme for the Development of Solar Parks and Ultra-Mega Solar Power Projects, eight solar parks with a cumulative capacity of 4,248 MW have been sanctioned in Madhya Pradesh, further advancing India's clean energy goals.
