Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi stated that blending ethanol with gasoline has saved the country Rs. 50,000 crore (US$ 6.30 billion) in foreign exchange over the last seven and a half years.

He stated that the Rs. 900 crore (US$ 113.51 million) ethanol plant will provide a permanent solution to the problem of stubble burning on farms. Furthermore, stubble will become a source of income for farmers, according to Modi, who also stated that ethanol production has increased from 40 crore litres to 400 crore litres in the last eight years.

He stated that the Panipat second-generation ethanol plant will help reduce pollution in Haryana and Delhi. Non-food biomass is used as feedstock in second-generation ethanol plants to produce biofuel. The project will use 2 lakh tonnes of rice straw to produce approximately 3 crore litres of ethanol per year. It will also result in a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
