SAEL Industries has commenced operations of a 600 MW solar power plant in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant addition to India’s renewable energy capacity. The project, spread across over 2,400 acres, comprises two units of 300 MW each developed through its subsidiaries and is designed to supply clean electricity directly to the national grid. The company has secured a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), ensuring long-term revenue visibility and stability. The plant deploys more than 12 lakh TOPCon bifacial solar modules manufactured at SAEL’s facilities in Punjab and Rajasthan, highlighting the integration of domestic manufacturing capabilities with large-scale project execution.
The solar facility is expected to reduce carbon emissions by around 11 lakh tonnes annually, contributing to India’s climate goals and energy transition efforts. The commissioning follows SAEL’s earlier achievement of operationalising a 1 GWp project in Khavda, Gujarat, which has taken the company’s total operational capacity beyond 2.5 GWp. According to the company, the project faced challenging site conditions and weather conditions in Kurnool, but was completed through focused planning and execution. The development reinforces Andhra Pradesh’s growing role as a hub for renewable energy investments and infrastructure, while also strengthening SAEL’s position in the solar energy segment.
