Goa remains India's top leisure destination, with MakeMyTrip recording a 12% increase in searches and a 14% rise in hotel room bookings during the October-December period of 2024, as reported by the travel booking firm's Co-Founder and Group CEO Mr. Rajesh Magow. This growth is notable amid concerns over declining tourism in Goa, especially from foreign visitors, and viral social media posts showing empty beaches and closed shacks. Issues like taxi driver exploitation and rising hotel prices have led some travellers to explore alternatives in Southeast Asia.

However, the data from MakeMyTrip suggests that Goa continues to attract significant interest, with searches for the state increasing by 12% YoY, reflecting strong demand despite a large base. Room night sales across hotels, homestays, and villas saw a 14% growth. Additionally, there has been a marked rise in the number of active properties in Goa, with travellers now seeking a wider range of accommodations. Notably, bookings for premium and luxury properties priced above Rs. 7,000 (US$ 80.90) per night surged by 41% compared to 2023, highlighting a growing preference for high-end experiences in the region.
