Self-reliance in defence production

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced four positive indigenisation lists with an embargo on the import of 411 major weapons platforms/systems from specified timeframes in order to support Aatmanirbharta.

Additionally, the MoD has announced three positive indigenization lists for Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) that include an embargo on the entry of 3,738 major line replacement units, subsystems, assemblies, subassemblies, components, and spare parts until certain dates.

Furthermore, the SRIJAN Portal has more than 26,000 defence products that have been uploaded and made available to the industry for indigenization. The process of indigenisation is continuous. 7,031 items that serve both the domestic and international marketplaces have already undergone indigenous production.

According to data that is accessible through December 2022, the imports of defence have decreased from 46% to 36.7% since 2018–19.
