Setting the Stage: India Targets Global Live Events Leadership by 2030

The Government of India is taking significant steps to position the country as a global hub for live events by 2030, recognising the sector as a key driver of economic growth, employment generation, tourism and cultural promotion. To support this vision, the Live Events Development Cell (LEDC) was established in July 2025 under the chairmanship of the Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, with representation from Central Ministries, State Governments, industry associations and other stakeholders. The LEDC has held four meetings since its formation and introduced several initiatives to strengthen infrastructure, simplify regulatory processes and improve ease of doing business. Key measures include the preparation of a comprehensive execution framework, the launch of an online single-window permission system through the India Cine Hub (ICH) portal and the designation of nodal officers by 29 States and Union Territories to streamline approvals for live events.

The LEDC has also prepared the Model Executive Order for Streamlining Licensing and Permissions for Live Events in India, 2026, which has already been implemented by three States/Union Territories. The Archaeological Survey of India has issued a standard operating procedure for organising events at 224 protected heritage sites, while a Greenfield Venue Development Policy concept note has been circulated to stakeholders. To strengthen industry capabilities, a dedicated skilling committee has been constituted to develop specialised courses in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, the Media and Entertainment Skills Council and the Event and Entertainment Management Association. Additionally, following the LEDC's recommendation, the Reserve Bank of India has removed the requirement for a bank guarantee on advance remittances of Rs. 4.80 crore (US$ 500,000) and above for the import of services under the Foreign Exchange Management Regulations, 2026, effective October 1, 2026. These initiatives are expected to enhance the business environment, promote investment and reinforce India's position as a preferred destination for global live events.
