The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) is proactively advancing initiatives to achieve carbon neutrality and net-zero carbon emissions at Indian airports. In a strategic move, airport operators, particularly those with scheduled operations, have received guidance to assess and map carbon emissions at their respective airports systematically. This directive aims to guide them in transitioning towards carbon neutrality and achieving net-zero emissions in a phased manner.
Furthermore, The Ministry of Civil Aviation has extended its advisory to developers of upcoming Greenfield Airports and the respective State Governments, urging them to align their efforts to attain Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero. This comprehensive approach includes a focus on incorporating green energy solutions.
The concerted efforts of the Government of India in this regard have borne fruit, with leading airports such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru securing noteworthy recognition. These airports have attained Level 4+ and higher Airports International Council (ACI) Accreditation, officially marking them as Carbon Neutral. Additionally, a remarkable 66 Indian airports are presently operating on a 100% Green Energy basis.
