Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, emphasised that sports could play a crucial role in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047 when it celebrates its centenary of independence. Speaking at the inaugural session of the first International Olympic Research Conference hosted at Rashtriya Raksha University, he highlighted India’s commitment to hosting the 2036 Olympics as a symbol of its rising global influence. He echoed Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's vision, stating that the country should be among the top 10 in the world in sports by 2036 and rank in the top five by 2047.
He further noted that sports can be a development pillar, especially as India aims to become a developed nation by 2047. He underscored the significance of research and innovation in keeping up with global advancements, warning that the country risks falling behind without these. He also pointed to initiatives like 'Khelo India' and the 'Fit India' campaign, which promote physical and mental fitness, as essential in shaping a healthy and prosperous society. The four-day conference will discuss topics such as Olympic host city selection, legacy, urban transformation, economic strategies, technological innovation, and sustainability, offering global insights into sports governance and future developments.
