As India rapidly advances its digital governance agenda, communicating effectively with citizens in their native languages has become essential for inclusive outreach. Traditional content creation methods struggle to meet the scale, speed, and linguistic diversity demanded by the country’s vast population. In response, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, through its WaveX Startup Accelerator Platform, has launched the “Kalaa Setu Real-Time Language Tech for Bharat” Challenge. This initiative invites India’s artificial intelligence (AI) startups to develop scalable, indigenous solutions for the automatic generation of audio, video, and graphic content from text inputs, supporting multiple Indian languages. The challenge focuses on three key areas: text-to-video, text-to-graphics, and text-to-audio generation, enabling customisable, engaging, and emotionally expressive content suited for diverse regional audiences.
Kalaa Setu aims to transform government communication by delivering official information in formats that resonate with local contexts, whether it be farmers receiving weather alerts, students accessing exam updates, or senior citizens learning about healthcare schemes. Startups can apply via the WaveX portal by July 30, 2025, with winners receiving support for pilot projects and incubation. Alongside this, the ‘Bhasha Setu’ real-time language translation challenge continues to accept applications until July 22, 2025. These efforts reflect India’s commitment to bridging language barriers through AI, fostering a vibrant startup ecosystem, and building a digital governance framework that respects the country’s rich linguistic diversity.
