Sun Pharma Signs Exclusive Deal with LIB Therapeutics for Lerodalcibep, Expanding Access to US$ 3.7 Billion PCSK9 Market

Sun Pharma has signed an exclusive agreement with US-based LIB Therapeutics for the manufacture, commercialisation and global licensing of Lerodalcibep, a once-monthly Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin Type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitor, across markets outside the US and China. The medicine is used to lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), commonly known as bad cholesterol, in adults with hypercholesterolaemia and mixed dyslipidaemia. Under the agreement, LIB Therapeutics will receive upfront and future milestone payments, along with royalties linked to net sales in the licensed territories. Financial details beyond these terms have not been disclosed. Lerodalcibep received marketing authorisation from the European Commission on September 21, 2026, where it will be marketed under the brand name Lyrokaul, while it has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration under the name Lerochol.
The agreement gives Sun Pharma access to the PCSK9 market outside the US and China, which is valued at Rs. 0.36 lakh crore (US$ 3.7 billion) and is expanding at a 38% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Europe represents a significant part of this opportunity, contributing Rs. 27,541 crore (US$ 2.9 billion) to the market in MAT Q2 2026. Sun Pharma Managing Director, Mr. Kirti W. Ganorkar, said the once-monthly dosing regimen could improve treatment convenience, supported by LDL-C reduction, a small-volume injection and storage for up to six months at ambient temperature. Sun Pharma will also be responsible for seeking regulatory approvals for Lerodalcibep in licensed markets where the medicine has not yet received approval. The transaction is expected to strengthen the company's Innovative Medicines portfolio, particularly in cardiovascular care, while expanding access to the treatment across its licensed markets.
