Tamil Nadu and Karnataka will be US$ 1 trillion economies in the next two years, says Mr. Amitabh Kant

According to a media source, Mr. Amitabh Kant, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Niti Aayog and India's G20 Sherpa, while addressing India Today Conclave South 2023, predicted that the economies of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu would grow to US$ 1 trillion in size over the following two years. He claimed that the southern states aim for the gross domestic product (GDP) of the nation to increase to US$ 5 trillion.

He added that the states will be key drivers at the 'forefront to drive India's growth.'

Mr. Amitabh Kant stated that the southern states of India account for over 30% of the country's GDP and have much higher per capita incomes than the rest of the nation.

In addition to it, he added that Tamil Nadu has excelled in manufacturing and Telangana has excelled in the pharmaceutical sector and over 35-40% of India’s pharma products come from there. Further, Kerala has excelled in travel and tourism and has created a brand for itself. Moreover, Karnataka has been the services centre for India and Andhra Pradesh has excelled in the manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries.
