Tata Power Renewables Powers Tata Steel’s Decarbonization Journey with 72.5 MW Captive Solar Project in Rajasthan

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has commissioned a 72.5 MW captive solar project at Kalasar, Bikaner, Rajasthan, developed for Tata Steel Limited through TP Vardhman Surya Limited, a TPREL subsidiary. The project is expected to generate 166 MUs of green energy annually and offset around 1,18,856 tonnes of carbon emissions per annum, supporting Tata Steel's decarbonisation and sustainability goals. The project deploys 1,71,360 modules manufactured by TP Solar Limited, reinforcing large-scale solar integration with advanced technology solutions as part of India's clean energy journey.
With this addition, TPREL's total renewable utility capacity has reached 12.3 GW, of which around 7 GW is operational, comprising 5.7 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind capacity, while close to 5.3 GW, including 2.2 GW solar and 3.1 GW wind, is under various stages of implementation and expected to be commissioned over the next 6-24 months. TPREL serves diverse sectors including utilities, data centres, communications, IT, petrochemicals, steel, automobile, FMCG and biotechnology, and remains focused on supporting India's target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, alongside Tata Power's vision of a sustainable, low-carbon energy future.
