TDB-DST funds Indigenous EV Charger Commercialisation to Accelerate Clean Mobility under Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Vision

The Technology Development Board (TDB), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, has sanctioned financial support to M/s Electrowaves Electronics Pvt. Ltd., Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh, to commercialise indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers. This initiative strengthens India’s clean mobility ecosystem by reducing reliance on imported charging solutions and supporting the broader objective of self-reliance in critical clean-tech infrastructure. The company has developed advanced Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) fast chargers, along with key components such as power modules, insulation monitoring devices, and communication controllers. Its DC fast chargers operate in the 30 kW-240 kW range and feature robust technology, including 15 kW and 30 kW power converter modules, PLC communication controllers compliant with DIN SPEC 70121 and partially with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 15118, and Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) communication controllers compliant with OCPP 1.6J and OCPP 2.0.1.
The support from TDB is expected to accelerate large-scale production of high-efficiency India-made charging systems, improve nationwide accessibility, and strengthen domestic supply chains in strategic energy and clean-tech sectors. By scaling indigenous manufacturing capabilities, the project contributes to energy security, sustainable industrial growth, and progress towards net-zero emissions targets. Secretary, TDB, Mr. Rajesh Kumar Pathak, highlighted that such initiatives reinforce innovation-led self-reliance and advance India’s transition to electric mobility. The promoters of Electrowaves Electronics stated that the funding will enable capacity expansion and enhance their contribution to India’s evolving clean energy landscape.
