As per officially released information from the Government of India, Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), has executed a collaboration agreement with Prantae Solutions Pvt Ltd. for the commercialisation of “Proflo-U”, a point-of-care renal diagnostics solution developed using innovative technology developed in India. The agreement [between TDB and Prantae Solutions] supports the transition of this cost-effective, portable diagnostic technology into the commercial marketplace, thus making it more readily available for the timely evaluation of kidney function in many locations throughout India, both within and outside the healthcare system. The support provided by TDB to Prantae for the development of `Proflo-U` supports the Indian Government's larger award objective of creating a strong indigenous health care innovation ecosystem in India, to enable the transition of the development of low-cost diagnostics throughout India and to improve clinical outcomes for individuals at risk for developing kidney complications through timely assessment and treatment. Through the collaboration, it is expected that the commercial availability of Proflo-U will improve the access of Indian citizens to improved renal healthcare.
The development of Proflo-U means that there is now an easily available method of testing kidney function quickly and accurately at the point of care. This would allow clinicians to quickly and accurately diagnose patients with renal impairment and begin appropriate intervention very early on. The commercialisation of such tools is expected to help strengthen the public health infrastructure in India, provide support for frontline healthcare delivery, and decrease costly dependence on centralised laboratory testing, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. This partnership also reflects the Government's commitment to encouraging the development of innovative healthcare solutions based on indigenous technology and to promoting industry-academia collaboration. As we place more emphasis on providing access to diagnostic tests and preventative care, tools like Proflo-U can play an integral role in enhancing the very early detection of disease, improving the delivery of quality patient care, and ultimately helping to achieve the goals of reducing health disparities and achieving universal coverage of all citizens' healthcare needs.
