Textiles Ministry to launch Digital Handloom Atlas at GI & Beyond 2.0 Summit

The Ministry of Textiles will organise the 'GI & Beyond 2.0 Summit' in New Delhi on August 5, 2026, to promote India's Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged handloom and handicraft products and strengthen their presence in domestic and international markets. Organised by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) in association with the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC), the summit will bring together overseas buyers from around 10 countries, exporters, multinational corporations, GI product proprietors, government officials, textile brands, retail chains, e-commerce platforms, academia and industry representatives. More than 100 GI-registered handloom and handicraft products from across the country will be showcased, alongside thematic exhibitions highlighting India's weaving traditions and live demonstrations of handloom weaving and handicraft techniques.
During the inaugural session, the Ministry will launch the Digital Handloom Atlas, a digital platform designed to showcase India's handloom products, including GI-tagged products, and connect artisans with global markets. GI certificates will also be presented to registered proprietors and newly authorised users, while the Diamond Jubilee logo of the Handloom Export Promotion Council will be unveiled. The summit will feature a presentation by IIT Madras on the application of artificial intelligence to strengthen the GI ecosystem, along with technical sessions on GI registration, intellectual property rights, domestic market promotion and strategies to expand the global reach of GI-tagged handloom products. The initiative is expected to strengthen market access, enhance global visibility for India's traditional crafts and support the growth of the country's handloom and handicrafts sector.
