The Centre approved the scheme for the release of grants to support LPG connections to Women under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana's scheme to facilitate liquified petroleum gas (LPG) connections for women has been approved by the Centre.

Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, informed the reporters in New Delhi after the Union Cabinet meeting that a total of 75 lakh LPG connections will be distributed over three years, from FY24 to FY26.

He informed that the initiative will have a total financial impact of Rs. 1,065 crore (US$ 128.5 million).

According to Mr. Anurag Thakur, the Ujjwala scheme has so far delivered 9.60 million LPG cylinders, and additional 75 lakh free LPG connections will be provided to women from low-income and needy families so they can take advantage of the scheme’s benefits.

Furthermore, he informed that the first refill and stove would be given to Ujjwala beneficiaries free of cost in accordance with the current Ujjawala 2.0 modalities.
