India's cumulative exports (merchandise and services) during April-August 2026-27 are estimated at US$ 399.27 billion, up 15.55% from US$ 345.55 billion in April-August 2025-26, while cumulative merchandise exports rose 17.85% to US$ 215.91 billion from US$ 183.21 billion. Non-petroleum exports for the period stood at US$ 180.61 billion, up 14.39% from US$ 157.89 billion, with the merchandise trade deficit widening to US$ 147.09 billion from US$ 123.88 billion. For August 2026 alone, total exports stood at US$ 82.68 billion, up 25.41% year-on-year, while total imports rose 18.75% to US$ 92.09 billion, narrowing the trade balance deficit to US$ 9.41 billion from US$ 11.62 billion in August 2025.
Major drivers of August 2026 export growth included Electronic Goods, up 89.82% to US$ 5.55 billion from US$ 2.93 billion, Petroleum Products, up 63.27% to US$ 6.81 billion, and Engineering Goods, up 24.86% to US$ 12.32 billion. Organic and Inorganic Chemicals exports rose 16.38% to US$ 2.80 billion, while Cotton Yarn, Fabrics and Handloom Products grew 13.79% to US$ 1.12 billion. Services exports for April-August 2026-27 are estimated to have grown 12.95% year-on-year, with the services trade surplus rising to US$ 86.71 billion from US$ 79.94 billion. Top export destinations by growth in August 2026 included Tanzania, Spain, Singapore and China, while the US, Russia and China led import growth sources.
