The selection of Ms. Jaya Verma Sinha as the first female Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairwoman of the Railway Board was made public on August 31, 2023, by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. She succeeds Mr. Anil Kumar Lahoti. Her appointment will be effective from September 1, 2023, till her superannuation.
The appointment of Ms. Jaya Verma Sinha, Member (Operations & Business Development), Indian Railway Management Services (IRMS), to the position of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Railway Board, has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
She talked about the complex signalling system at the centre stage of the railway’s media interactions as a Member of Operations and Business Development. She joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1988 and worked in Northern Railway, South-East Railway and Eastern Railway.
Ms. Jaya Verma Sinha, an alumnus of Allahabad University, began working for the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1988 and has since held positions in the Eastern, Northern, and South-East railways. She also worked as a Railway Advisor at the High Commission of India, Dhaka, Bangladesh for four years. The Maitree Express from Kolkata to Dhaka was inaugurated during her tenure in Bangladesh. She also worked as the Divisional Railway Manager, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division.
