According to a press release, the National Frequency Allocation Plan 2025 (NFAP-2025) issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will become effective on 30 December 2025. The NFAP-2025 updates the allocation of radio frequency spectrum bands for different services and technologies and brings India's frequency usage Framework into line with international spectrum standards. The NFAP-2025 provides a framework for the efficient use of spectrum and addresses the future needs of sophisticated communications systems, as well as facilitating the development of new technologies like 5G, wireless broadband, satellite services, and IoT applications.
The announcement from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology indicated that the updated frequency allocation plan was an important step toward aligning India's spectrum policies with the best practices used around the world and enhancing the interoperability and deployment of technology by both services and device manufacturers. The NFAP-2025 was designed to consider all the current technology trends and the progress made worldwide with respect to spectrum administration and to strengthen India's digital infrastructure and provide improved connectivity within telecommunications, broadcasting, aviation, and defence. This new plan will assist all stakeholders by clearly defining the usage of frequency bands, thus allowing for a coordinated approach to planning and investing in both current and future communication services. Overall, the NFAP-2025 serves as another example of the Government's ongoing dedication to updating India's spectrum framework and ultimately enabling India's transition to a strong, globally competitive ecosystem for digital communications.
