An awareness about the "waste to wealth" initiative has been generated, thanks to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's "Swachhata" campaign. Additionally, there is a greater awareness of the application of innovation and technology to recycle and reuse waste resources for beneficial purposes.
Following a review of the progress of Week 3 of the Swachhata Special Campaign 3.0 being implemented in all Indian government offices, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, made this statement at a press conference.
Dr. Jitendra Singh promoted the use of AI, robotics, and drones in order to intelligently separate waste and dispose of the resulting materials quickly.
Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasised that every piece of trash has value and mentioned that the Department of Science and Technology, Technology Development Board, and CSIR have introduced the "Recycling on Wheels" bus, which is mobile and can produce Waste to Wealth at various locations.
According to Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR-IIP) in Dehra Dun has collaborated to create a Repurposed Used Cooking Oil (RUCO) van that collects used cooking oil and turns it into biofuel.
According to Dr. Jitendra Singh, the government has made a total of Rs. 776 crore (US$ 93.3 million) in revenue from the disposal of scrap during the course of the last three years' three Special Campaigns, which were carried out by all government offices nationwide.
He added that because of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, the Swachhata campaign has become a success since he introduced it on August 15, 2014, during his first Independence Day speech.
"More than 4 lakh toilets were built in the first year of the Swachhata campaign, empowering women with 'Suvidha, Svasthya, and Samman’. In the second year, the Special Campaign was centred on cleaning up e-scrap and disposal lakhs of junk files, which freed up valuable office space for more useful purposes,” he said.
According to Dr. Jitendra Singh, Special Campaign 3.0 has made over 86 lakh square feet of office space available in just three weeks.
Every day, the Special Campaign 3.0 progress is tracked on a specific portal (https://scdpm.nic.in/). To assess the campaign's progress, regular review meetings are conducted with nodal officers and the Secretary of the DARPG as the chairperson. On October 31, 2023, Special Campaign 3.0 comes to an end. The Evaluation phase will start the first week of November.
