In 2024, the US Mission in India issued over one million non-immigrant visas for the second consecutive year, reflecting a surge in Indian interest in traveling to the US for tourism, business, and education. Indian visitors to the US increased by 26% compared to 2023, with over two million arrivals between January and November. India also emerged as the top sender of international students to the US, with over 331,000 Indian students currently enrolled, including nearly 200,000 pursuing graduate degrees, particularly in STEM fields. The US Mission introduced enhancements like streamlined interview waiver processing and global consular resource optimization, reducing wait times and improving visa accessibility for Indians.

Significant updates include the pilot launch of a U.S.-based H-1B visa renewal system, allowing Indian professionals to renew visas without leaving the country addressing long-standing logistical challenges. Additionally, immigrant visas facilitated family reunifications and skilled worker migration, strengthening the Indian diaspora. Changes to the J-1 visa program have provided greater flexibility for participants, while the overall expansion of visa processing and policy adjustments have contributed to bolstering the ties between India and the US, highlighting the growing significance of this bilateral relationship.
