Union Agriculture Minister Mr. Tomar has launched DigiClaim for claim disbursal through the National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP)

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar has inaugurated DigiClaim, under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana's (PMFBY), which is a digitised claim settlement module for the National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP). The launch of the module will result in claims being paid out electronically, which will be advantageous to the various farmers in six states. The automated claim settlement procedure will now be a continuous endeavour to simplify the lives of all insured farmers and offer them sustainable cash flow and support.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Narendra Tomar said, it is a source of pride for the Ministry to have made it possible for farmers to receive claim amounts digitally in a timely and automated way, transforming them into Aatmanirbhar and Sashakt.

The release of insurance claims totalling US$ 152.6 million (Rs. 1,260.35 crores) to insured farmers in the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana was made possible by the launch of a DigiClaim Module on March 23, 2023. The process will continue as and when the claims are released. The Union Minister also stated that payments totalling US$ 16 billion (Rs. 1.32 lakh crore) have been made to insured farms under PMFBY to date. He also paid particular attention to the ongoing ‘Meri Policy, Mere Haath’ campaign and noted that it had made a significant contribution to raising public knowledge of PMFBY at the grassroots level.

Now, farmers’ claims will be processed directly to their respective bank accounts in a transparent and accountable manner. This technology has been enabled through the integration of NCIP and the Public Finance Management System (PFMS). Also, farmers would be able to track the claim settlement process on their mobile phones in real-time and avail the scheme’s benefits.

This technical development has helped PMFBY move closer to modernising the programme. This is in accordance with Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's goal of transforming India into a digital powerhouse by fostering ease of living for farmers.
