Union Budget 2023-24: 300-400 Vande Bharat trains may be announced in Budget

In the next Budget, the government is expected to announce another 300-400 Vande Bharat (VB) trains. The railways also plans to build the first "standard gauge" (SG) version of this semi-high-speed train within the next year, paving the way for it to be exported to markets in Europe, South America, and East Asia by 2025-26.

The announcement of the new VB trains will be in addition to the previously announced plan to put 475 such semi-high-speed trains into service within the next three to four years. According to sources, the ultimate goal is to sanction 300-400 such trains per year to meet rising demand and provide passengers with a better riding experience. The first VB train with sleeper coaches will be introduced in the first quarter of 2024, according to Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw.
