In New Delhi, India’s Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr. Piyush Goyal, engaged in talks with Canada’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Mr. Tim Hodgson, to discuss how India and Canada can further their cooperation for mutual growth. They shared thoughts on how they can enhance their work in these key areas: energy security, critical minerals, and renewable energy, acknowledging that these areas are critical to meeting future demand and fueling green transitions in both countries. The dialogue emphasized the importance of stronger economic partnerships and sustainable partnerships that leverage the strengths of each country in natural resources and clean technologies. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal took the opportunity to introduce India’s new Parliament building, which combines heritage and modern ambitions, symbolizing India’s growing role in the world and commitment to inclusive growth. In furthering previous exchanges, both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding dialogue channels and strengthening institutional frameworks that facilitate long-term cooperation in strategic sectors.
This dialogue is part of efforts to revitalize their bilateral economic relationship, including accelerating talks on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and increasing trade and investment between the two countries. Previous dialogues have already identified areas of potential cooperation in technology, manufacturing, clean energy, and critical minerals, to double bilateral trade in the coming years. Canada’s current interest in pursuing stronger economic partnerships with India is a result of a mutual understanding of the benefits that can be derived from a stronger bilateral relationship, from secure energy access to sustainable infrastructure and resilient supply chains.
