Union Commerce and Industry Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal interacted with 15 Ambassadors from the African region for strengthening trade and investment ties with India

On June 8, 2023 in New Delhi, Mr. Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Textiles, hosted fifteen ambassadors from several African nations. The Minister stated that India and Africa have a great partnership that spans decades and has the potential to become the future's powerhouse during his conversation with the Ambassadors. The event aimed to advance closer economic ties between India and Africa, improve trade ties, and investigate potential areas of cooperation.

The Ambassadors were welcomed by Mr. Piyush Goyal, who also emphasised the importance of the connection between India and Africa. He emphasised the Prime Minister's commitment to elevating Africa to the top of his agenda and strengthening India's relationship with Africa in a continuous and consistent manner. He urged the heads of missions to cooperate for the growth of the African and Indian sub-continent.

He further highlighted that this was the beginning of a new engagement and that India would work as a trusted partner to expand business, trade, and investment prospects between the two countries. The Minister that India is willing to engage in bilateral or one-on-one free trade agreement (FTA) talks with certain African nations or with Africa as a whole.

The event witnessed the participation of 15 ambassadors from key African nations namely Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, Ghana, the Republic of Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Morocco, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. It offered a singular forum for diplomatic representatives to have meaningful discussions, fortify bilateral connections, and create new partnerships for mutual growth and development.

Africa and India have a rich cultural past together. With its rapidly growing population, developing middle class, and wealth of natural resources, the African continent offers enormous prospects for Indian industries. India and Africa can both gain from the capabilities and knowledge of the other through increasing trade and investment, promoting inclusive growth and job creation.

The event placed a strong emphasis on the value of cultural exchanges, interpersonal relationships, and strategic alliances between India and Africa in addition to economic factors.
