Union Commerce and Industry Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal chaired a meeting with Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) and industry associations to review the progress of the Export Promotion Mission (EPM) and discuss measures to accelerate India's export growth. The discussions focused on adopting a coordinated strategy to expand exports, explore new markets and products, and strengthen the contribution of EPCs to India's overall export performance. The Minister urged export bodies to work closely with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) by submitting measurable, outcome-oriented proposals and leveraging opportunities arising from India's Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). To improve trade facilitation and provide greater predictability for exporters, the Government has introduced a tentative schedule for statutory and facilitation committee meetings, including the Norms Committee, Policy Relaxation Committee, EPCG Committee, Exim Facilitation Committees and the Inter-Ministerial Working Group on SCOMET, with the objective of ensuring time-bound decision-making and reducing pendency.

Commerce Secretary Mr. Rajesh Agarwal highlighted that the success of the Export Promotion Mission will depend on the effective utilisation of support measures such as export factoring, credit guarantees for e-commerce exporters, collateral support for export credit and assistance for emerging export opportunities. The meeting also emphasised the importance of expanding export warehousing, logistics, certification support, trade intelligence and market access while encouraging wider participation in international trade events. Under the District Export Hubs initiative, Export Promotion Councils have been encouraged to identify export-oriented districts and products, including GI-tagged goods, agricultural produce and local crafts, to strengthen district-level export ecosystems. DGFT officials reaffirmed a mission-mode approach to export promotion, focusing on e-commerce exports, district-level development, facilitation and support for young entrepreneurs, while noting that ten interventions under the Export Promotion Mission have already been operationalised to enhance India's global trade competitiveness.
