The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal, has urged India’s industries to leverage the benefits from India’s growing network of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) by continuing to keep a strong focus on quality and global competitiveness. India has signed nine FTAs with 38 developed nations that provide access to these markets at preferential or zero-duty rates. These markets represent almost two-thirds of global trade. However, he has stressed that for India’s industries to succeed in these markets in the long run, they will need to be able to meet high global quality standards and deliver high-value products and services.

The Minister also emphasized the significance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Inclusive Growth as the pillars of the development approach in India in line with the concept of ‘Viksit Bharat’. He encouraged the industry stakeholders to participate actively in the social development programs, such as education and skill development, which would eventually lead to the growth of the economy in a balanced manner. The trade policies and industrial policies implemented by the government are designed in such a way that the position of the country in the value chain is further strengthened, and the economic growth is reflected across the broader economy. By following the export-led growth approach through FTAs, the quality enhancement approach, and the social responsibility approach, the economy is poised to achieve the long-term growth objectives in the direction of becoming a developed economy.
