Union External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar meets Germany Member of Parliament Mr. Jurgen Hardt, discusses growing bilateral ties

Union External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met German Member of Parliament Mr. Jurgen Hardt in New Delhi on August 5, 2025, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and review global developments. In a post on X, Dr. S. Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for the meeting, noting the continued progress in relations between the two nations. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Germany is one of India’s most valued partners in Europe, with the strategic partnership growing steadily since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1951. Both nations celebrated 70 years of diplomatic ties in March 2021.
Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Mr. Olaf Scholz have met six times over the last two years, including during the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy, in June 2024, and the G20 Summit in New Delhi in September 2023. In February 2023, German Chancellor Mr. Olaf Scholz undertook a standalone State visit to India, marking a milestone in bilateral relations. India and Germany held their sixth Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC) in Berlin in May 2022, co-chaired by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Mr. Olaf Scholz. Several agreements were signed in sectors such as clean energy, healthcare, agroecology, skill development, and mobility, with a key outcome being the Joint Declaration of Intent on the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP). Separately, Dr. S Jaishankar also met Slovenia’s Ambassador to India, Ms. Mateja Vodeb Ghosh, for a farewell call and appreciated her contributions to strengthening bilateral ties.
