Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal, along with New Zealand Minister for Trade and Investment, Mr. Todd McClay, engaged with industry stakeholders in Agra ahead of the signing of the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The interaction focused on strengthening bilateral trade ties and highlighting opportunities for Indian exporters, particularly from sectors such as leather, footwear and handicrafts. The visit underscores the government’s emphasis on aligning local industry capabilities with emerging global trade opportunities. The upcoming FTA is expected to provide enhanced market access and reduce trade barriers, reinforcing India’s export competitiveness in key sectors.
The engagement also highlighted Agra’s significance as a major manufacturing and export hub, especially for leather and footwear products. The Ministers encouraged businesses to leverage the FTA to expand exports, explore joint ventures and integrate into global value chains. The agreement, scheduled to be signed on April 27, 2026, is expected to unlock new opportunities for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and promote investment flows between the two countries. It marks a key milestone in India’s strategy to deepen trade partnerships and strengthen its position in the global economy through diversified export markets and enhanced international cooperation.
