Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal held a series of high-level meetings with European (EU) Union Commissioners and Belgium's Deputy Prime Minister Mr. David Clarinval in Brussels to strengthen cooperation across trade, investment, agriculture, clean energy and sustainable industrial development. During his discussions with European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Mr. Christophe Hansen, the leaders explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in the agri-food sector following the successful conclusion of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), with a focus on building resilient agri-food value chains, enhancing food security and supporting sustainable agricultural growth. In a separate meeting with European Commissioner for Climate, Net-Zero and Clean Growth Mr. Wopke Hoekstra, discussions centred on expanding cooperation in renewable energy, green hydrogen, clean technologies, innovation, investment and resilient value chains to advance shared net-zero ambitions. The engagements reaffirmed the growing momentum in the India-EU strategic economic partnership and underscored both sides' commitment to strengthening sustainable and innovation-led collaboration.

During his July 14-15, 2026, visit to Belgium, Mr. Goyal also discussed expanding India-Belgium cooperation in trade, technology, logistics and workforce mobility with Mr. David Clarinval, while highlighting the transformative potential of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement. The visit includes engagements at the Port of Antwerp and the Antwerp World Diamond Centre to explore collaboration in multimodal connectivity, green logistics, resilient supply chains and the global diamond value chain. The Minister is also scheduled to hold discussions with industry leaders from the aerospace, defence, cybersecurity, speciality chemicals, battery recycling and sustainable manufacturing sectors. In addition, he is participating in the India-EU Business Roundtable and co-chairing the 3rd India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Ministerial Meeting, the highest institutional platform for cooperation on trade, trusted technology and economic security. These engagements are expected to further strengthen bilateral trade, attract investments and deepen technology partnerships between India and the European Union.
