The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal, chaired a high-level review meeting on April 29, 2026, to accelerate India’s export growth strategy under the Export Promotion Mission (EPM). The government has set an ambitious target of Rs. 188.72 lakh crore (US$ 2 trillion) in total exports by 2030-31, with equal contributions of Rs. 94.36 lakh crore (US$ 1 trillion) each from merchandise and services exports. A structured Export Monitoring Framework has been developed, breaking the national target into sector-specific action plans across key industries such as engineering goods, textiles, electronics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and services. The framework assigns clearly defined responsibilities, timelines and performance indicators to ensure accountability and measurable progress.

The strategy is anchored on coordinated execution, stronger inter-ministerial collaboration and technology-enabled monitoring systems to track progress in real time. The statement further emphasised that actionable reforms to support exporters through improved access to finance, enhanced market access, streamlined compliance processes, better logistics and stronger global branding. Additionally, the government is focusing on identifying priority sectors for import substitution alongside export expansion, ensuring a balanced trade approach. The Export Promotion Mission, with its sub-schemes Niryat Protsahan and Niryat Disha, aims to address critical bottlenecks and enable inclusive and sustainable export growth, particularly for MSMEs. This integrated approach reflects India’s commitment to strengthening its global trade position and achieving long-term export competitiveness through disciplined implementation and policy support.
