Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal, commenced his official visit to Switzerland on June 9, 2025, as part of a broader tour to Switzerland and Sweden from June 9–13, 2025. This high-level visit highlights India’s ongoing commitment to fortifying economic and strategic ties with key European partners. In Switzerland, Mr. Piyush Goyal will engage with global Chief Executive Officers, industry leaders, and associations across sectors such as pharmaceuticals, life sciences, precision engineering, and high-tech manufacturing. He is also scheduled to meet the Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), Mr. Guy Parmelin, to further diplomatic and trade cooperation.
The itinerary includes participation in Swissmem Industry Day and a Business Round Table with the Swiss Mechanical and Electrical (MEM) Industry, focusing on opportunities under the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). One-on-one meetings with Swiss companies and interactions with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) Zurich Chapter and the Indian media are also planned. In Sweden, Mr. Piyush Goyal will co-chair the 21st Indo-Swedish Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial, and Scientific Cooperation (JCEISC) with Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Mr. Benjamin Dousa. Bilateral meetings with Mr. Benjamin Dousa and State Secretary, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Sweden, Mr. Håkan Jevrell, will explore advanced manufacturing, green technologies, and innovation-led sectors. Engagements with Swedish giants such as Ericsson, IKEA, Volvo Group, Sandvik, Alfa Laval, and SAAB are also on the agenda. His interaction with the Indian diaspora and media will further bolster the India-Sweden partnership and deepen strategic, economic, and cultural collaboration.
